"After graduating Cum Laude from California State University, Los Angeles, Lennie Niehaus joined the Stan Kenton orchestra. During his stay with the Kenton organization, he performed as a featured jazz alto soloist and won Downbeat's new star award in the alto saxophone category. He also arranged many albums for Kenton and recorded albums under his own name, using many of the famous jazz stars like Shelly Manne, Sill Perkins, Mel Lewis and Jimmy Giuffre. Recently, Niehaus has concentrated his efforts on writing for television, motion pictures, recording groups and major account commercials. He has arranged for luminaries such as John Denver, Mel Torme, John Davidson, Florence Henderson and Sammy Davis Jr. He has actively served the educatiortal field for many years, as a published composer/arranger and as an adjudicator/clinician in high schools and colleges throughout the country.
